Local athletes will not tell the truth. All coaches recruit home town players, but parents want them to go to D1A schools.
 
That Thigpen boy is getting look from big-time schools.

Cee check SWAC.org.. yOu guys show 13 players so far. Actually you guys are the only school listed so far.

Thanks MD. I was gone say it but Players is so sure.

I've spoken to cats in OB who would love to play for HBCU's but their parents who went want them to go to the PWC's. Most are looking for some handouts ,free tickets,etc...
 
Most of the mid-level guys in MS would rather take their chances at a JUCO than sign with an HBCU. That's the difference between HBCUs recruiting in MS vs recruiting in Alabama and Louisiana. You have to compete against a powerful JUCO system for a lot fo these guys.

Yall got quite a few from schools here in the Atl area.

That's not always true MD. Trust me I have seen coaches not do it. Some just assume those kids will go D1A because of who their HS coach is. Sometimes all you need to do is talk to the kid anyway. Some coaches just refuse to do so. When I was in HS in Jackson. Coach Gorden or Coach Covington didn't recruit my HS as hard as they did those in W. Jackson or S. Jackon because our players tended to go to D1A...but we always had some who didn't. Coach Cooley or Stribling and Coach Casem or Whitney would take that chance to talk to those kids and both ended up getting alot of them. But I understood why JSU didn't so much because we had a white Football coach at my HS at the time and of course the better players were pushed towards Ms State, Ole Piss, and USM. The thing that Casem and Cooley knew........there were alot of those kids who came from HBCU households and could be easily swayed to the SWAC if you just talked to the kids and parents. Sometimes I wonder if coaches like to be bothered by the parents and fans of these local kids. Makes you wonder.

I know we have had to tell Pete a few times about local kids. James Vernon comes to mind. Pete had not even looked at the kid until Vernon was in the paper basically saying he wanted to go to SU but no one had contacted him. LOL

JR, JSU has always recruited well out of state. And once those NCAA standards got more restrictive, that pushed us even more out there. The pool of eligible talent in MS isn't all that deep. And having so many JUCOs doesn't help any either.
 
JR, MD is telling the truth about the Huntsville area. It's a ton of HBCU grads in Huntsville who push their kids toward PWC's before HBCU's. It amazes me how these local kids tear A&M down for AU and Bama, but when they don't get picked for those schools they say A&M didn't recruit them, and the ones who leave end right back up at A&M with in two years. I never understand why they leave Huntsville in the first place because 80% of these spoiled kids from Huntsville end right back home at A&M year after year.

grades= bottom line/ most ms kids do not qualify esp. delta area of the state

a d-2 paradise as far as recruiting the juco ranks

Trust it happens in all sports not just football I talk with a lot of parents its sad to hear parents who went FAMU JSU AAMU SU BCU and then wont allow there kids to go to a HBCU afterwards everything that you are came from a HBCU. Its amazing how they will turn there back on there alma mater buy up the whole store of SEC and ACC stuff to watch there kids be 4th and 5th string instead of getting a good education and a chance to play at a HBCU

Cee, I guess we were different back then... we wanted to go to HBCUs. The thing I was saying is that some coaches will not even talk to the kid even though they are going to sell themselves to the Auburns or LSUs. I like how Shine Wyatt says it at BCU. He says he talks to every kid even if he knows the kid may end up at Florida or Florida State. Hell Florida got so mad at him.....they wanted him to stop having contact with their recruits. LOL. But he basically keeps the door open for them if things don't work out. Holding no hard feelings for them trying the 1A level.

That's all I was saying. I saw alot of that when I lived in Houston. Some kids were like SU never called me so they ended up at other schools. So I do know it goes both ways.

That was my only "wait and see" thing to recruiting this year.
Since that's been settled, and not one was signed or recruited, I feel :vomit:

The best we got is Trae.

Well there are plenty of unsigned QB's out there. And plenty of FBS QB's looking to transfer. We should be okay. MS's 2010 class has a lot of QB's who we have a real chance of getting. We need to go hard on Thigpen from Callaway, D. Sullivan from Taylorsville and Aerion Williams from Gulfport. L, I'll take Dyaln Favre (Brett's nephew) if he's interested! LOL

NO MORE TRANSFER's or JUCO's at QB please.
2 year's top's and their gone.
1 year learning the system and 1 year running the system.
Then it's back to square one again.

Recruit some Highschool QB's to fit the style of play instead of getting whoever sign's up.
Highschool QB's will be there 4 years.

I still think McDonald is gonna do well for us. He's got all the measurables and 4 years. He simply has to be giving a chance. Won't be next season, though.
