JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - An attorney for Alcorn State head coach
Ernest T. Jones says the coach has been fired days after filing a
lawsuit seeking the reinstatement of seven coaches on his staff.
Attorney Wayne Ferrell said Thursday the firing was detailed in
a letter he received and that coach Jones apparently was unaware of
his dismissal as of mid-day Thursday. Ferrell said he could not go
into detail about the allegations in the letter but he called them
frivolous.
Attempts to contact Alcorn State's athletic department for
comment were not immediately successful.
Alcorn went 2-10 this season, but lost six games by a touchdown
or less and four games in the final minute. The Braves were 2-8 in
2007, their last season under former coach Johnny Thomas.

johnny thomas is getting the last laugh now!!! THIS NEW AD AT ALCORN BETTER BE CAREFUL WITH HIS NEXT HIRE!!!

the president hired Jones as both were from Central Michigan at one time.....but I thought Hamilton was at the SWAC Meetings in Birmingham?

This is crazy....But I was told that Steve McNair was pushing for Fred McNair to get this position....money talks!

OK. :retard:

They fired all the assistant's at first and kept Earnest.
Then they re-hired all the assistant's 2 day's ago "for now".
Now all the assistant's have their job's and Earnest got fired today.:smh:

My head is hurting............

Now they can legally fire the assistants. Jones is gone and so will be the assistants.

You can call it the return of McNair.

Good job by McNair and Alcorn. We (JSU) need somebody to push us in the East. Can't depend on Valley and the Bamas. It's good to see someone had the mind and money to nip this in the bud before it got worse, a la James Bell.

Jones maybe but there was no need to buy-out the assistants being that they haven't signed a new contract for next year. Their contract was set to expire Dec. 31 anyway.

Maybe it's because he has a heart and empathizes with those guys who have families to feed, plus it's the Christmas season.

There's no guarantee Fred McNair will do any better than Jones. He's light on experience.

Jones wasn't a bad hire IMO. He should've been given a chance. Unless he was dirty.

If I were a candidate for the job, I would require a detailed explaination of why Jones was let go after one year. So far, all I hear is that the AD didn't hire him and Steve McNair wants the job for his brother. I'm not sure how much credibility is in those rumors. Whatever the case, I would need to be convinced that the same fate does not await me after only one year in the position.
