Remove Garmens,Tom-Toms, Sirius and XM radios from your windsheild when parked.

My car was broken into yesterday at work. Someone stole the Garmen that I had on my windshield. When you're out at shopping malls, grocery stores, etc. It may be safe to remove them from view. Wipe the imprint of the suction cup so that the thieves will not know that you have one of the items in your car. I was talking with the cop that wrote up a report for my car. He said those items are hot items right now that are being stolen. The thieves shattered my drivers-side window and took the garmen out.

Yep! I was got on yesterday! This was the second incident that has happened. Another guy had the same thing happen to him here at work. His Garmen was stolen last month. Where I work, there is a metro where people are getting off and going to work and some people are getting off just to find victims to steal from. There are also a lot of day-laborers around the area. It's no telling who broke into my car.

That ish is crazy...too bad the device is only a reciever and cant transmit data.......did you have the lock feature set?

Thanks! I'm just surprised our security here didn't catch anything on their monitors. We have camera's outside of the building. I wasn't even at work a good 30 minutes before they broke into my my car. I think the thieves must have watched me park my car.

Nah, I didn't have the lock set, on the garmen but that wouldn't have stopped them from taking it.
 
I thought that was the common thing to do anyway. Never leave anything valuable visible to the public in your car.

Ask Panthro, this happened to him a few years ago and he had one of them high dollar ones that did everything.
 
Since these devices work off of satellite, they need to add another feature to them. They need to add a self-destruction mechanism to them once they are stolen. Once an owner realize that someone has stolen his or her device, he or she should be able to activate a self-destruction mechanism by logging in on a computer and typing in a digital code to destroy the device.:lmao:

I have a Garmin and the instruction manual told me to not only remove it and the bracket, but to take a microfiber cloth and wipe the ring mark left by the suction cup...
 
Hate to hear that happened to you Buck. It's happening on a regular at most of the hotels here. When the cops come to write up the reports, they ask the guest what did they leave visible in the car. Then it hits them that their device is missing and then comes the shoulda coulda wouldas. Believe it or not, some folks have even left laptop bags in view and folks break in and still it also. At this point it's best not to leave NOTHING in sight as an invitation for them to bust your window.
 
Bingo! Well I hope you Buckwheat can get another unit. Mine has come in handy especially when trying to make decisions about dining in an area I am not familiar with.
 



Sorry Buck. Lesson learned the hard way. Tis the season for thieves to break in and steal whatever they can, whenever they can, from whoever they can - TAKE PRECAUTIONS at home, work, walking, church, club, Christmas party, jogging - wherever!

Ironic that just yesterday, I'd finished what appears to be the last argument w/ my insurance company over their insurability of everything home related that was taken from my vehicle just last year. :| I'm still mad about the stuff that was taken from me and the GPS and it's external chords, etc were not in view. Some idiot went through a 2nd console and found everything there in less than 15-20 mins.

Like the claims agent told me yesterday, if it's of value to you, remove it from your vehicle because a dummy will smash and rummage attempting to find anything. I'd become to lax'd by being in the home area where crime does not exist and upon returning to the "city," found out that I'd accidentally dropped my guard.

I WISHED I could know unequivocally who did that to me last year. I would've shot them dead immediately. (I'm still very angry about this) Sorry you had to endure this buck but it's one of life's lessons learned. I too learned and it cost me PERSONALLY well over 5-6K $$$ as the insurance company had a "cap" on what it would cover. For instance: I have had to get keys recut, mobile guy who comes out since I cannot drive the vehicles as the keys to them were stolen, for 13 varying vehicles over the last year. :| (ignition switch key, wheel lock key, locking gas cap key, txmitters for alarms - alarm removal-alarm re-installation, tractors keys, varying trailers keys, boat keys, .... totally out of pocket as NO insurance home or vehicle covers those types of thinigs :| ) I hope the sorry piece of sh*t who took my sh*t dies the most horrible death known to man and I'd love to be there to laugh @ the sorry muthafukka while looking him (her) eye-to-eye. I've <b>never stolen anything </b> from anyone so I'm still having a hard time dealing w/ this silly sh*t. I've worked very, very, very, very hard in life to acquire "stuff" and I think it's pitiful someone would attempt to "cheat" and TAKE from someone who's sacrificed sincerely.

Man let me stop. I'm calling that detective Mon @ 8:00am to see if he finally got a hit on the prints they lifted from the vehicle. I want this sorry piece of sh*t muthafukka caught. Y'all seen the movie <i>Falling Down</i>? :read:

The smash and grab guys could have a field day at my building. I see tons of GPS systems sitting in plain view in many cars. I had a guy to break in to my car about 14 years ago while I was in Church. All he got was a bag with some dirty gym clothes. I know he was pissed when he finally stopped running and found all he had was some dirty clothes. :lol:
