BATESVILLE, Ark. – Tim Whitfield rushed for a season-high 230 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 17 Langston Lions knocked off Lyon College 60-7 Saturday afternoon.
Whitfield scored the game’s first three touchdowns on runs of 24, three and 67 yards, giving the Lions a 21-0 cushion at the 11:56 mark in the second quarter. Quarterback RaQuan Washington scored the final touchdown of the half to give Langston a 28-0 advantage at halftime.
The Scots lone score came in the third quarter when Isaiah Bradford hit Orreon Finley for a 74-yard touchdown. Langston countered with a touchdown pass from Washington to Daylon Person and a four-yard score by Whitfield to push their lead to 43-7.
In the final frame the Lions picked up touchdown runs from Jordan Cooper and Gianni Stevenson in addition to a 24-yard field goal by Connor Robles.
Washington finished seven-of-19 for 111 yards and one touchdown and picked up 77 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Isaiah Shaputis led all receivers with three receptions for 40 yards. Malcolm Johnson led the Langston defense with eight total tackles and Justin Wade finished with seven total tackles including two sacks for 21 yards.
Langston (3-1, 2-0 SAC) is back in action at home versus Arizona Christian on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at W.E. Anderson stadium.
