NORFOLK, Va., March 11, 2015 – Top seed North Carolina Central had no issues in Wednesday’s quarterfinal match-up against Coppin State, cruising to a 91-43 win at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Eagles (25-6) advance to Friday’s semifinal against either Howard or Delaware State at 6 p.m.
Jordan Parks led three Eagles in double figures with a game-high 29 points, while also grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds for the double-double. Andrew McDonald added 19 points and Nimrod Hilliard chipped in 12 points.
NCCU shot 56.9 percent (33-for-58) from the floor and hit six of 12 3-pointers. The Eagles dominated the glass to the tune of 39-23 and saw Coppin State turn the ball over 21 times.
The Eagles wasted no time, jumping out to a 12-1 lead – before ultimately holding a 44-22 lead over Coppin State at the half. Parks led NCCU with 19 points at the break.
Coppin State cut the lead to 58-35 with 14:24 left to play, but NCCU closed out the game on a 33-8 run to easily advance to the next round.
Coppin State (8-23) shot 30.0 percent (15-for-50) from the floor and made just seven of 20 3-pointers.
Arnold Fripp led the Eagles with 14 points.
