SHREVEPORT—The #3 Grambling State Tigers Baseball team weathered the storm and a nearly two hour weather delay to hold off the Delta Devils of #2 Mississippi Valley State University for a 8-4 win in game two of the 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball tournament.
The Tigers jumped on the board early as Mychal Roby singled in Alvin Simmons in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. After adding two runs in the second the Tigers added four more runs in the top of the fourth capped off by a two-run homerun over left centerfield by Steve Kletke also scoring Milt Barney who had reached base with a walk.
The Delta Devils would make their way to the scoreboard scoring two runs in the fifth to make the score 7-2 just before the weather delay at the top of the sixth. Valley added a run in the seventh and both teams would push a run across in the ninth inning to round out the scoring.
The Tigers were led at the plate by Chris Wolfe and Jeremy Shelby who combined for seven of Grambling’s 11 hits. Wolfe was 4-for-5 with 2RBI’s and a run scored; while Shelby was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Adrian Turner picked up the win allowing two earned runs in five innings. Matt Morales recorded the save.
For the Delta Devils Donquarious Farmer, Curtis Ford and Jack Edmonson each recorded two hits. Steven Barnes received the loss going only one and two-third innings allowing three earned runs.
