. — The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes softball team snapped a 14 game losing streak against the University ofÂ Arkansas-Monticello this evening with a, 10-4, victory over the Cotton Blossoms.
UAM drew â€œfirst bloodâ€ as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in theÂ third inning.Â Valley responded with one run in the bottom of the inning,Â three in the fourth and another in the fifth.Â The Cotton Blossoms drew to within one run at, 5-4, in the top of the sixth but theÂ Devilettes exploded for five runs in their half of the inning to putÂ the game away.
The Devilettes were led by Candy Shumpertâ€™s three-for-three day atÂ the plate, with two runs scored and two RBIâ€™s.Â Shiana Mitchell, Megan Hayes, Christle Middleton and Traci Roper each had two hits.Â Nikki
Stouder picked up the win on the mound going the complete game allowing four earned runs.
The Blossomsâ€™ Becca Tipton finished the day three-for-four with a runÂ scored, while Meredith Heckel went two-for-three with a run scored and a RBI.Â Becca Sustaire suffered the loss as she gave up six earned
runs in five and a third innings of work.
The Devilettes will return to action when they hit the road this weekend traveling toto participate in the University ofÂ Louisiana at Lafayette Tournament.
