The Southwestern Athletic Conference announces today that three contests have been added to the Conference’s television slate for 2007. In addition to the previously announced schedule of games, one additional football game and two volleyball matches will also be shown on national television.
The 2007 Gulf Coast Classic – between Southern and Alabama State and played in Mobile, Ala. – is the additional football contest. The last time these two teams met in Mobile was the 2005 edition of the Gulf Coast Classic at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
In volleyball action, two matches have been added to the television slate. Both match-ups have slowly become inter-conference rivalries and have been exciting for both the fan and the player alike. On September 25, the Jackson State Lady Tigers will play host to the Grambling State Lady Tigers at T.B. Ellis Gym in Jackson, Miss. While an cross-divisional contest, the match should be a good measuring stick from both teams midway during the season. On October 8, the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs – under new head coach Nedra Brown – will travel to Itta Bena, Mississippi for a divisional showdown with the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes. The match should have postseason implications and has been a major game in the conference standings over the past two years.
