SOUTH BEND, Ind. ? Georgia basketball fans clinging to the hope that Louis Williams will be wearing a Bulldogs uniform next season had best not hold their breath.

The South Gwinnett senior said he had recently informed Dawgs coach Dennis Felton there was a "major possibility" that he would bypass college and jump directly to the NBA.

"He knows there's a major possibility I won't be there if everything goes to plan," Williams said following Tuesday's practice for the McDonald's All-American game, scheduled tonight at Notre Dame's Joyce Center.

What about Alabama?? (LOL @ MH trying to claim ATL) :smh:
What about Alabama? We CONTINUALLY bust Mississippi arse year in/year out over the summer in the All-Star basketball game. We have Richard Hendrix (signed with Bama) but might go pro this year. Two years ago The state of Alabama had 3 high school players drafted in the NBA. Has the Sip' done that?

you know Mr. Basketball's in Mississippi go to Jackson State, suckerpunch players when they not looking and score 3 points while playing MOST of the game in their most important basketball game of the year.

I read that article. The Macon paper provides good coverage too.

We are a national power now. Jackson is the next JJ amongst the legacy of PGs. Notice the breadth of recruiting -- takin' recruits from UCLA country.

We will never know what the bottom looks like.....have we ever???

trust me TP, tech knows all too well what the bottom looks like.

When I was growing up, yech was SUPER SORRY. In everything!
(that's one of the reasons, yech traditionally has soooo few fans. Nobody really grew up pulling for them, cause they sucked so much)

No disrespect to Williams, but according to Rivals.com and their reports. Monta Ellis has been the top player at the McDonald's All-American practices and has scouts saying he will be the first or second high schooler picked. Louis Williams is not even mentioned. I saw both play head to head. Williams is a very good player. Monta is better.

GSupe,
From the looks of that you might have competition with MLB for him.
Damn, I forgot about that (I guess I should be happy that Brothers are playing b-ball -- big shortage from the old days). I am trying to see him play since he is a local guy.

Interesting, because the Yellow Jackets are ranked #1 in the country in baseball via the Collegiate America poll. Hewitt and crew finished in the top 25 in the final ranking. The football team has the longest consecutive bowl streak in college football (also no program in the South has won more national titles than GT other than Bama of course).

Meanwhile, in Athens they are considering themselves a national power with one SEC championship in 24 years (Tech has a national title in the last 15). The basketball team is the laughing stock of the SEC (America is still laughing at test questions at UGA, "How many halves are in a basketball game?"), and baseball -- well -- see my first sentence.

The same site ranks him the number 9 overall player in the nation and the 4 shooting guard.

It is hard for me to root for South Gwinnett as well as the Georgia Bulldogs (harder for the 'dawgs). But in some rankings Williams is listed at number one. Also, another top recruit, Mike Mercer, also played for South Gwinnett alongside Williams.

Anyway, I heard someone say over ESPN Radio that this class of recruits should head to college. But I cannot remember which program or who said it.

I think Brandon Rush will be the best high schooler taken in the draft this year IF he keeps his head on straight. He is JaRon Rush (his brother) without the alcoholism.

Those rankings were also pre-season rankings. Haven't been updated all year. Before they actually played head to head and before he destroyed every head to head matchup he had, even dominating in Lanier's 2 losses.

This is what they had to say after their actual matchup head to head.

http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=910&CID=378754

Louis Williams was rated the best guard in America in the preseason. All the NBA mock drafts had him going anywhere from 10-30. Now that the season has played out he has dropped according to most mocks.

This is how ESPN ranked them in early January, right after their head to head matchup.

http://proxy.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&id=1971910

ESPN has Williams now ranked as the ninth best shooting guard possibly available for the draft. This includes all college, high school, and European players who could possibly come out, not necessarily who will. So some of them will not even factor in when the actual draft comes around.

http://proxy.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&id=2009098

ESPN has Ellis rated as the 7th best point guard in the same scenario.

http://proxy.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&id=2004119

Considering Ellis is bigger and a better scorer, but has shown that he can play the point, he has jumped ahead of Williams. This is according to Rivals, ESPN and just about every updated web site and mock draft. Read Rivals message boards if you have access. Williams is not even being mentioned in the practices. Ellis has dominated.

these rankings dont go by high school games... you RARELY see any of these folks ESPECIALLY with rivals.com at high school games. They come from AAU summer league games.

Why don't he go to college for a year or two to work on his game. This is why the NBA has been lowered to a developmental leauge. :)
