UAPB audit leads to firings

QUEEN LIONESS!!!
I really hate to post this on this Board, especially with so much positive news going on at our other SWAC schools, but it is news. So here goes:

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff fired four employees this week after UA System auditors flagged "purchasing and payroll issues" at a university housing complex, UA System Don Bobbitt said Wednesday.

Bobbitt would not comment further on the nature of the audit findings. The amount of money involved won't be fully known until the investigation is completed next week, he said.

"I'm interested in seeing the final report and seeing the facts, and then we will deal with them," Bobbitt said.

:smh::smh:

It goes on further to say:

Bobbitt said he would read the final audit report before he determines if other areas of the university should be investigated or if other employees-including Chancellor Lawrence A. Davis, Jr-might be disciplined.

"I don't have evidence that we need to follow up with other divisions," he said. "But I think anytime you have an audit of this nature, it's probably a good idea to look at all of your practices."

"The audit involves the bypassing of management and university controls in regards to purchasing and payroll at the Harrold Complex," he said. The Harrold Complex is a cluster of student dormitories that UAPB has renovated in recent years.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette requested documents related to the terminations under the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act on Wednesday. UA officials said they would not release those documents until they first notified the four employees.

:smh::smh::smh:

The rest of the news:

A December audit report said administrative assistant Marlo Thomas was terminated after auditors tracked $5,400 in unauthorized payments that she made in names of her three children. She has reimbursed the university.

In November, an internal audit detailed $8,092 in losses involving former volleyball coach La'Kyva Walton, who has moved to Texas. UAPB had recovered $3,145 through payroll deductions and will continue to seek the rest, the audit said.

I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired of this mess. In lieu of being fired, Chancellor Davis has opted to retire. What makes me so angry about this is that is that he has known about mishandling of money at UAPB and has not fired these people. And this isn't the first time he's let isht like this ride. Somewhere down the line he lost himself along with his loyalty to AM&N/UAPB and placed it in people who show him no kind of loyalty in return. Now, like a coward, he's chosen to retire rather than face the facts that he let this happen to my school and will go out looking like a savior rather than a source of the problem.

He's done a lot for UAPB and our school did flourish under his 21 years......but the ends don't justify the means. When you're aware that folks are pocketing money, especially money coming in from the state, YOU fire them on the spot!

Good thing you all doing it now. Go ahead and clean up now.

BnB, the problem is, Chancellor Davis should have made an example out of those 2 brothers who stole money from UAPB back when I was a student there (1990-1996). Sometimes you have to make an example out of people; show folks you don't or won't tolerate theft of funds/property belonging to the school, staff/ students. When you do this, you save yourself time, money, and a lot of embarrassment.

Understandable. But, atleast you all are doing SOMETHING. It maybe a few years too long, but it's not too late.

I heard Davis got escorted out of a bball game, is that true.

I was at the basketball game this past Monday when we played against Prairie View......he did not get escorted out. He wasn't fired; he was given the option to take early retirement & he did.

Chancellor Davis is scheduled to speak at the alumni banquet tomorrow night in Lonoke. People are wondering if he will show up!!:smh::smh: I'll be there anyway just to see if he will make an appearance.:smh::smh:
