A fateful meeting that brought friends Adrian Winston and Darin Wyly together at Tennessee State University has evolved into a growing Nashville-based apparel brand with a message: Live Above.
When their worlds collided in 2009, Winston and Wyly discovered they have a lot in common. They were both pursuing their collegiate basketball dreams, Winston at Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wyly at the University of Miami-Ohio, when they got into academic trouble and transferred to TSU. They also both lost a parent to cancer.
Winston and Wyly became roommates while attending TSU, and they both landed full-time jobs after graduation that left them feeling unfulfilled.
That’s when the idea for a clothing brand was born.
“We had a talk that we wanted something different out of life, so that’s when we came up with Appealed Design,” Wyly said.
