HELSINKI, Finland (AP) - Dwight Phillips had an easy day qualifying for the long jump final Friday. His American teammates were not as fortunate.
Triple jump champion Walter Davis failed to make the final at the world track and field championships, along with U.S. long jump champion Miguel Pate and Brian Johnson. Davis fouled on his first two attempts, then jumped 24 feet, 4 1/4 inches, well off his season best of 26-2 1/4.
