NEC and PFL champs to meet in Gridiron Classic

Somerset, NJ (Sports Network) - The Northeast Conference and Pioneer Football League announced on Tuesday a two-year agreement to meet in the newly created Gridiron Classic.

The Gridiron Classic will be an exempted postseason football game that will feature the champions of the two I-AA football conferences.

"We are very pleased about the postseason opportunity that the Gridiron Classic affords our student-athletes," said NEC interim commissioner Ron Ratner. "The NEC and its schools look forward to working with the PFL in making this a highly anticipated game at the I-AA level."

Those two conferences don't have scholarships and don't participate in the playoffs.
NEC had need-based aid, PFL nothing (like the MAAC). NEC has moved to scholarships this year. Neither (like the MAAC) has had a team make the playoffs.
