MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Lynx rookie Seimone Augustus was named WNBA Player of the Week on Monday, earning the honor faster than all but one player in the league's 10-year history.
Augustus averaged 25.7 points in three games last week, her second in the WNBA, while shooting 6-for-10 from 3-point range and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings, in 2002, won the award in her first week. Rookies have received the honor only six times.
Augustus, the first pick in the draft out of LSU, is averaging a league-best 22.7 points for the 2-4 Lynx while shooting 92 percent from the foul line and 47 percent from the 3-point line.
