Minister Farrakhan at Alabama A&M live via webcast

Tuesday Address to students to be carried live webcast, April 10, 2012 beginning at 6pm Central Time

(FinalCall.com) - Despite efforts by opposition seeking to slow the momentum leading up to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan's April 10 visit to Alabama A & M University supporters refuse to be bullied into dis-inviting the Muslim leader.

Minister Farrakhan is scheduled to visit the historically Black college established in 1875 by a former slave, to motivate and inspire the hearts and minds of young, aspiring students and will address the subject, "The True Meaning of Education" at the nearly 5,000 seat Elmore Gymnasium on campus.

When publicized that Min. Farrakhan was confirmed to speak, almost immediately, elements bent on interfering in the affairs of Black people, reminiscent of the typical but manufactured controversy surrounding his recent lecture at University of California Berkeley began surfacing.

Alabama A&M Reaction to Min. Louis Farrakhan Visit Shows Fear, Misunderstanding of HBCU Social Mission

Alabama A&M University President Andrew Hugine recently issued a lengthy statement on the April campus visit of Min. Louis Farrakhan. In sum, Dr. Hugine distanced the university as a welcoming host for the visit, put the students in any potential line of criticism and scrutiny for the invitation, and tied the package up with a paper-thin promotion of free speech and diverse perspectives.

"As President of Alabama A&M University, I want to state emphatically, that this administration did not extend an invitation to Minister Louis Farrakhan," Hugine said in the statement. "The invitation was extended by student organizations on the campus consistent with university policy and procedures.

"Other than the provision of these facilities, the University is not sponsoring or funding this event in any way. The views which may be expressed during this upcoming event do not reflect or embody the views of Alabama A&M University." (Huntsville Times)

Perhaps it was a necessary way to preempt raised eyebrows among state legislators and alumni who may question the minister's visit. Perhaps it wasn't Dr. Hugine's call to make. In either case, Alabama A&M giving the cold shoulder to an iconic figure in Black history amplifies echoes of an HBCU culture that once pushed away from difficult talk on civic and social debate.

Grambling may pass on chance to hear Farrakhan

GSU officials say speech may be poorly attended because of student parties and step shows

Northeast Louisiana may miss a chance to hear Louis Farrakhan, the organizer of the famed “Million Man Marchâ€￾ because of paper work and his appearance may come during a university’s spring festival.

Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, also known as the Black Muslims, is on a tour of Historical Black College and Universities and has extended Grambling State University a chance to hear him, free of charge. However, the university says it’s schedule is full and the necessary paper work has not been done to accommodate speakers of his magnitude.

Wherever Farrakhan goes controversy follows because of his anti-Jewish, anti- white sentiments. Yet, that has not stopped other black colleges from changing their schedules to hear him such as: Prairie View A&M in Houston, The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Alabama A&M in Normal, Alabama.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (FinalCall.com) - The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan was welcomed by thousands of students at Alabama A&M University April 10 as he began the first leg of a scheduled tour of several historically Black colleges and universities throughout the south.

The line to enter the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium snaked around the block, and once inside, they listened as the Minister encouraged them to be serious in their pursuit of knowledge in order to become masters with the ability to solve the problems affecting the world today.

Minister Farrakhan's address was also carried live via webcast to thousands more viewers from the Nation of Islam's website at http://www.noi.org.

It is always good to hear the Honorable Minister speak. He tells the truth that white America does not wanna hear. The white male, no matter how poor, uneducated or his status feels as though he is superior or better than the black male. The fear the white male has for us is passed down in their genes.

"White people suffer from the false notion that white skin makes them superior," Great message!!!!!

Teach 'em Bro. Minister!

To those within a short driving distance to Arkansas, Pine Bluff to be exact, Minister Farrakhan will be speaking at UAPB on April 16th (I believe).

It was a GREAT speech. Farrakhan is sadly one of the only remaining prominent Black men who still tell it like it is.

When he compared AAMU to an elder grandparent who helped raise all of us (in the context of giving back to the University), I almost cried.

If you can get to go see him in person, PLEASE go do it. And bring a friend or relative.

I am glad I was able to attend last night. It was a pretty good showing...approx. 4000 attendees.

Cee Dog I agree with you thats why i wanted the Minister to come drop some knowledge to our people....

Farrakhan only wants the best for us black people ...and thats the main reason others in the hsv community tried to keep him from speaking..he addressed the scrutiny by saying he was grateful to Pres. Hugine for not cancelling the speech

Farrakhan spoke alot on AAMU and the fact that a former slave started the school and he expressed his gratitude for Councill's fight ......you can tell he really did his homework on the history of AAMU

this was history and im glad i was able to be apart of it.

If you missed it here is the link to the Farrakhan speech at AAMU http://noi.org/webcast/weekly-archive.shtml
