JSU Provost James Renick resigns
Anna Wolfe, The Clarion-Ledger 8:59 a.m. CDT October 6, 2015
Jackson State University Provost James Renick resigned Monday on the heels of a recent string of resignations and firings.
Renick is being replaced by Evelyn Leggette, associate vice president for academic affairs.
In a message from JSU President Carolyn Meyers to staff and faculty, Meyers writes, "(A)nyone who voluntarily resigns is obviously unhappy and possibly unable to fully commit to the university for various reasons, reasons which I do not question or explore."
This resignation comes one week after the departure of three other JSU employees, Cheryl Shaw, the JSU Cheerleaders' spirit team coach/adviser, Nedra Brown, associate athletic director for internal operations/senior woman administrator, and Robert Walker, the interim athletic director.
The JSU cheerleaders chose not to perform at Saturday's game in support of Shaw, who resigned last week, around the same time Brown was terminated.
Walker announced his resignation during an athletic department meeting Wednesday afternoon, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Walker took the interim position last March after Vivian Fuller, the school’s previous athletic director, was reassigned to associate vice provost for student affairs. Fuller had six lawsuits filed against her from the time she took over as athletic director to the time she was reassigned.
