It's taken comedian Doug Williams 20 years to complete his degree at Alabama State University, but when it happened it happened fast.
In 1995, Williams had one course, an elective, to complete for his degree, when opportunity knocked — loudly.
Dr. David Okeowo, the head of ASU's journalism and communications department, happened to mention to William's wife, Alda, that he couldn't understand why Williams hadn't gotten the degree when he only lacked one elective.
"Well, once he told my wife, that flame was lit," Williams said. "She told him 'Oh, he will be doing that course and getting his degree, and he will be doing that right away.' "
