This is a good program. It also very good to have one of our Senators involved, visibility by him is a good thing.

The dean of Alabama State University’s College of Business Administration, Dr. Le-Quita Booth, served as moderator for a summit held January 20 to introduce the “Alabama Works, Alabama Wins†project. The event was held at the new location of Medical Place Inc. in Montgomery.

The proposed “Alabama Works, Alabama Wins†project aims to boost competiveness among Alabama’s contractors to create jobs in the state.

“We want to make sure major contractors will not have to go outside Alabama to find subcontractors,†Booth said. “We have to help smaller contractors increase in capacity. So, we brought in major players from the public and private sectors to establish public and private partners. From this summit, we’re hoping to collectively put together a program that makes sense and benefits minority contractors.â€

ASU President William H. Harris, ASU Executive Vice President and COO John F. Knight Jr., and ASU Board of Trustees Chairman Elton N. Dean were joined by U. S. Senator Jeff Sessions, Attorney General Luther Strange, Alabama Department of Transportation Director John R. Cooper, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, and other city and state officials in announcing the details of the program.

The summit also featured major industry leaders including Jay Reed, president of the Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, and Bill Morton, president and CEO of Robins and Morton, a nationally ranked construction and building firm.
