The NFL Players Association Wants Quick Hearing on Steve McNair's Grievance Against Tennessee Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The NFL Players Association wants a quick hearing on Steve McNair's grievance against the Tennessee Titans.
The union had the option to request an expedited hearing to be held within 10 days after the Titans answered the grievance, in which McNair claims Tennessee breached his contract when it barred him from working out on team property.
General counsel Richard Berthelsen said Monday that the hearing will depend on the arbitrator's schedule and that a date might not be available for three weeks.
"We're insisting that it be sooner rather than later," Berthelsen said.
The Titans cited team policy in declining to comment on McNair's grievance.
McNair's agent, Bus Cook, did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press seeking comment.
A quick ruling by an arbitrator could help the quarterback. Negotiations to rework McNair's $9 million salary for 2006 have been slow.
The Titans don't want the co-MVP of 2003 working out on their property because they fear an injury would leave them liable for $23.46 million that his contract counts for under the salary cap. They hold the No. 3 pick overall in Saturday's draft and are expected to take a quarterback.
