Win puts JSU in control of East

By Mark Alexander
Clarion-Ledger Staff Writer

NORMAL, Ala. ? Jackson State made its first and only regular season trip to Alabama this weekend.

After Saturday's 26-14 victory over Alabama A&M, it looks as if a return trip might be in the offing in early December.

"Jackson State is, if not in the driver's seat, at least in control in the East," Alabama A&M coach Ron Cooper said afterward.

JSU improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. In doing so, the Tigers cleared an essential hurdle in their planned path to the SWAC Championship Game Dec. 1 in Birmingham.

Defending SWAC East champion Alabama A&M dropped to 1-3 and 1-1.

Quarterback Robert Kent threw four touchdown passes for the Tigers, who have won nine of the last 10 games against the Bulldogs.
