After Prairie View A&M’s 56-48 win over Southland Conference member Stephen F. Austin, Panthers head coach Heishma Northern said this;

Like I told the team earlier in the week, this is bigger than just Prairie View. This was for the SWAC. This is for HBCU football, HBCU coaches and players. We wasn’t just playing for Prairie View

Not to sound cynical, but it does sound like he was saying Black HBCU coaches can coach too. Maybe a few are getting the message that if they don't do their job at ALL times, they will be replaced.

That message needs to continue to be sent until all of the coaches and administrators get it.

He is right. There are black coaches that can coach but the key is getting full support from administrators and alumni. For example at GSU we have so many folks that want a clone of Coach Rob that they will never fully accept any coach that is not an alum of GSU and played under Coach Rob. Doug had it made but his mouth wrote checks his ass could not cash.

The alumni have to remember that a coach is as only successful as the support he recieves. Coach Northern is a very good coach and is growing his program. Much respect to him.

Yes a coach is only successful as the support he receives, but some of these coaches never ask for any support. They wait until they start losing games to complain about the support they need, which is unacceptable. Something tells me if you don't ask for support in the beginning and wait until you have lost a few games to complain, you lack the knowledge of being a good coach.
