USA Today I-AA Spotlight 10/10/03

It's a short article, but I saw it under College Sports:
I-AA spotlight: "Southern O to clash with Ala. A&M's D"
Something's gotta give.

Alabama A&M (4-2) at Southern (5-0)
Baton Rouge, 7 p.m. ET

The skinny: Perhaps the hottest offensive unit in the Southwestern Athletic Conference against perhaps the hottest defensive unit. Southern averages 438.2 yards and a league-best 42.8 points. Senior QB Quincy Richard is completing 68.3% of his passes and has 12 TDs. The Bulldogs have won their last three by a combined 150-10, including two shutouts, but that was against teams that are a combined 3-12. A&M does have a good 1-2 punch on the ground in Jeremiah Bonds (SWAC-leading 105 yards a game) and Lanier Bush. The Bulldogs have a whopping 27 sacks, but Southern has allowed only one.

Worth noting: A&M is the defending SWAC East Division champ. It lost the league title game last year to Grambling 30-19, and one loss this season was 45-14 to the Tigers. ... Southern leads the SWAC in turnover margin (+14). ... Richard missed last year's game against A&M with an ankle injury, and the Bulldogs sacked his replacements five times in a 27-11 win.
