TROY, Ala. (AP) - Troy State indefinitely suspended sophomore tailback Marrio Fraser from school Wednesday for misconduct relating to the shooting of a teammate, the university said.

Freshman linebacker Cedric Brooks was treated and released from a local hospital after he was shot in the shoulder at about 3 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

University officials said in a statement they do not believe a police investigation will show that Fraser caused Brooks' injury, but he was suspended under a university policy involving cases of serious misconduct or violation of university probation.

Fraser and sophomore receiver Toris Rutledge were questioned in the incident.

Fraser lost his athletic scholarship and his status as a student and must vacate university housing.

Brooks was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the driveway of a Troy residence, and sustained a superficial shoulder wound. Police said the shooting apparently resulted from an argument at a local restaurant.

Troy police spokesman Benny Scarbrough did not immediately return a call Wednesday seeking comment on the investigation.

Fraser had 81 yards on 12 carries, including a 27-yard touchdown, in a 33-24 upset of Marshall by Troy State (3-3) on Sept. 27.
