Ike eligible to compete this fall

AUSTIN -- Victor Ike, a backup running back at Texas and the Longhorns' top kickoff returner, will transfer to Southern University for his senior season.

Ike was given an unconditional release from his scholarship. Because Southern plays in Division I-AA, Ike will be eligible to compete in the fall.

Ike rushed for 595 yards and 11 touchdowns, caught 17 passes for 238 yards and two scores and registered 1,940 all-purpose yards in his three seasons as a Longhorn. His 93-yard kickoff return in the 2000 Holiday Bowl was Texas' first for a touchdown since 1978.

I heard about this tonight on my way in to work while listening to 610 sports radio in Houston. They sounded like it wasn't a big lost to Texas, but it will be a good recruit for SU.

I heard about this today also.

SU is getting a pretty good back. He just got caught up in the "Cedric Benson" fascination UT has with him. I hope this trend continues... hopefully we (HBCUs) can reach them before they go the other (PWC) route and get caught up in the hype.
