Player evaluation:
Maurice Hicks
MAURICE HICKS
MEASURABLES
Height: 5-9 ? Weight: 194
40-yard dash: 4.52
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a versatile player with explosiveness. Has very good vision as a runner and shows the necessary burst to the hole. He catches the ball well and is elusive in the open field. Does a great job at this level of breaking arm tackles and running away from defenders. Is very instinctive and shifty as a runner that runs with good leverage.

Weaknesses: Gets away with a lot at this level, but as an NFL prospect, he has just adequate speed and size. He will not be able to run away from people in the NFL like he does here, and his size will limit him. Also, he is not great in the passing game; is a willing blocker, but will get overwhelmed at the next level.

Bottom line: There's a lot to get excited about when you watch film on Hicks, but the level of competition raises a lot of concerns. Hicks has good quickness, vision and instincts ? for any level. But he also lacks ideal size and speed, and will not run away from people like he does now. As a possible third down back and return man, Hicks is interesting, but he's by no means a premier back in the NFL.

Marcus Bryson

MARCUS BRYSON
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-4 Weight: 250
40-yard dash: 4.98
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a solid pass-catching tight end. Has good hands, and catches the ball smoothly away from his body. Is a reliable target who does a good job of using his body to shield off defenders. Will make plays over the middle. Has been extremely productive in Division I-AA, and does an excellent job of getting open.

Weaknesses: Doesn't offer much as an interior blocker. Plays with a marginal base, and doesn't get much of a push in the running game. Doesn't do a good job of adjusting to a bad passes, and doesn't show explosion when the ball is in the air. Plays a bit upright at times, and doesn't get ideal leverage as a blocker. Could get exposed at the point of attack in the NFL.

Bottom line: Bryson is a better receiver than blocker, but he has the size to improve in that area. He doesn't have great strength and will struggle to hold up in the running game. He is productive as a receiver and has solid hands, but he doesn't have the speed or change-of-direction skills to be a consistent threat. He does have some upside, including good size and a knack for finding the soft spot in zones. But he just isn't agile enough as a receiver or explosive/strong enough as a blocker to get excited about.

Player evaluation:
Rob Harding

ROB HARDING
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-2 ? Weight: 235
40-yard dash: 5.03
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a pocket passer with ideal size and good arm strength. Throws a tight ball, and has good accuracy. Has a quick release, and shows good touch on the short-to-intermediate routes.

Weaknesses: Has Limited game experience. Lacks mobility in the pocket. Durability is a concern. Has little escape ability, and is not threat to run. Takes a lot of hits in the pocket, and lack of mobility hurts his overall consistency.

Bottom line: Harding is one of the most underrated college quarterbacks. He saw limited time in college because of injuries and problems fitting the system. However, Harding has the arm to compete in the NFL and could be a sleeper of this draft class. He lacks mobility but has the arm and upside to develop into a solid NFL backup.

Player evaluation:
Michael Hayes

MICHAEL HAYES
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-4 Weight: 214
40-yard dash: 4.60
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a big, tall and strong. Is physical, and has no trouble in traffic. Has strong hands, and will make catches in a crowd. Does not have great speed, but is a strider who gets downfield and shows a lot of big-play flair. Has good experience. Shows good leaping ability, and will make plays with defensive backs all around him. Does a nice job of adjusting to the ball in the air. Shows good concentration, and is acrobatic.

Weaknesses: Has just average speed, and can't get deep. Does not have a lot of short-area burst or quickness; that weakness will get further exposed against NFL defensive backs. Is smooth, but does not run crisp routes and will tend to round off his routes.

Bottom line: Hayes, a transfer from LSU, is a tall, strong receiver who is smooth in his movement, but he is not fast or quick. He is more of a strider who will make plays on the ball in the air. He shows good concentration and a lot of big-play flair, but his level of competition and lack of downfield speed will limit him on draft day.

Player evaluation:
Lawrence Story

DEVIN LEWIS
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-2 Weight: 204
40-yard dash: 4.37
War Room analysis
Strengths: Has ideal size and outstanding pure speed. Will stretch the defense and challenge the secondary downfield. Has long arms to extend and make himself bigger.

Weaknesses: Is not a natural pass-catcher. Tends to trap the ball against his body. Has trouble holding onto the ball. Shows raw route-running skills. Is not crisp at cutting and planting. Lacks the ideal burst in and out of cuts, and has trouble creating separation.

Bottom line: Lewis is a classic ?height, weight, speed? prospect who could be drafted on measurable skills and potential alone. He can run with anyone in the NFL, but he never has transferred that speed into production and looks sloppy at times. He doesn't run good routes and drops too many passes. He doesn't run crisp routes. He would improve with a better work ethic and better coaching.

Player evaluation:
Lawrence Smith

LAWRENCE SMITH
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-2 ? Weight: 288
40-yard dash: 5.00
War Room analysis
Strengths: He is a mauler type that is best suited to run block. Has impressive size and strength. Very impressive at the POA, and will get a lot of movement. He does a pretty good job of getting his body into players and cover them up with size. He has some pop off the snap and good power overall. Possesses a lot of raw ability. Has a lot of potential.

Weaknesses: Has some trouble redirecting in pass pro. He plays the game top heavy and needs to show better balance. He is slow to react and can't block well when he is on the move. In pass pro he doesn't slide well and will struggle with people on his edge. Lacks good footwork and is still pretty raw. He will need to become a more fundamental blocker if he is going to compete with NFL caliber players.

Bottom line: Smith has improved a great deal since entering Tennessee St. If he continues to improve this season he could emerge as one of the sleepers of the 2001 draft because he is big, strong and fast.

Player evaluation:
Andre Arnold

ANDRE ARNOLD
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-3 Weight: 236
40-yard dash: 4.77
War Room analysis
Strengths: Has great speed and burst off the ball, and makes plays all over the field. Is a one-gap type player who can penetrate and make plays behind the line. Has natural pass-rush moves, and never stops hustling. Will give great backside chase. Shows great initial quickness to make a lot of plays in the backfield against the run.

Weaknesses: Does not shed blockers well. Gets engulfed by bigger offensive tackles. Teams have success when running at him. Relies too much on a quick first step to make plays. Does not have great natural strength. Is undersized.

Bottom line: Arnold is your typical rush end. He lacks size but has an abundance of speed. He has impressive upper-body power and will slap to avoid getting caught up when he is coming off the edge. In the early stages of his NFL career, he'll simply be a special teamer and a nickel rush guy.

Player evaluation:
Gregory Scott

GREGORY SCOTT
MEASURABLES
Height: 6-3 ? Weight: 243
40-yard dash: 4.76
War Room analysis
Strengths: Shows great speed and burst off the ball. Makes plays all over the field. Does a great job coming off the edge when he pressures the quarterback and has a nice closing burst. A very good athlete. Will give great backside chase. Shows good initial quickness.

Weaknesses: Lacks great technique and played against sub-par competition in college. Won't fight to get back into plays. Relies too much on a quick first step to make plays. Can get knocked back at the point of attack by strong offensive tackles. Must get better in a short-area battles.

Bottom line: Scott is not a real polished player, but his natural ability makes him an interesting prospect. He is good at making plays in space and shows good ability to chase down plays, but he lacks the strength to win one-on-one battles against bigger players. With raw but solid tools, Scott could be an NFL sleeper.

Player evaluation:
Roosevelt Williams

ROOSEVELT WILLIAMS
MEASURABLES
Height: 5-11 ? Weight: 199
40-yard dash: 4.57
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is an outstanding raw athlete with good size and excellent quickness. Shows very good lateral movement. Can turn and run. Has very smooth hips and shows short-area burst to the ball. Has shown good ball skills and the ability to challenge for the ball in the air. Weaknesses: Comes from small program. Seems to be undisciplined and needs coaching. Technique is marginal, and read and reaction needs work. Will peek in backfield and will get burned on pump or double move. Has average speed and is very raw.Bottom line: Williams comes from a small school, and he needs a lot of technique work and overall coaching, but he has very good natural tools. He has good size and excellent quickness. He's certainly a developmental player, but has a lot of upside.

War Room analysis
Strengths: Has very good size and adequate speed. Is a standout in a small-school conference, but film shows that he has the tools to develop. Has very good leaping ability and is aggressive, especially when the ball is in the air. Has good instincts and shows solid ball skills. Is a centerfielder type, who should cover more ground with improved footwork. Weaknesses: Competition level is biggest concern. Is tall, long-legged and seems stiff in his pedal and turn. Does not show good plant and drive skills. Is a bit lanky and does not show the ability to stack at the point of attack. Will have trouble making conversion to NFL level in run support. Bottom line: Kelly plays in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, so competition is obviously a concern. He has the size and is a standout in the league. He runs well and shows playmaking skills when the ball is in the air. Kelly shows good natural tools, but is still very raw and his lack of quickness is a concern in coverage.
