Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville wasn't necessarily wrong when he said this week, "We are back to another Iron Bowl, the No. 1 college football rivalry in this country, as voted by most people." But if the vote were taken this week, the Iron Bowl would barely get any support outside the state of Alabama.

That's because this game, and every other, is eclipsed by No. 1 Ohio State vs. No. 2 Michigan and because this year the Iron Bowl barely is a blip on the Southeastern Conference title race. Alabama (6-5, 2-5 SEC) is struggling, and No. 15 Auburn (9-2, 5-2) is coming off a staggering loss to unranked Georgia, which put the national title well out of reach and left the Tigers needing plenty of help to win the SEC West.

Mattress Mack rules:

Boosters plaster their names on buildings and even erect statues in their own honor after making big donations. But what in a name of T. Boone Pickens is going on at North Texas?

The school must name its new athletic facility after Darrell Dickey, just fired as coach, or the donor's $1 million gift will be redirected to the North Texas' music department. North Texas needs the money so, it will pocket the $1 million, as well as pay Dickey, under contract through 2009, a $560,000 buyout.

According to the Associated Press, school officials say they will honor the request from Houston furniture magnate Jim McIngvale ? known locally as "Mattress Mack" for his offbeat TV and radio commercials. Dickey, who had a heart attack during the season, was 3-7 this season when he was fired. He was 2-9 last year and 42-62 overall.

"Right's right and wrong's wrong. It's the right thing to do," McIngvale said. "I don't think firing a guy three weeks after a heart attack was the right thing to do, either. Even Wall Street is not that callous."
