The 2019 HBCU Sports Preseason Top 15 Band Poll


North Carolina A&T, voted HBCU Sports Band of the Year for the second consecutive year (2017 and 2018), begins the 2019 season in the No. 1 spot.

HBCU Sports presents its 5th annual preseason Top 15 band poll for 2019.

2. Jackson State
3. Southern
4. Norfolk State
5. Tennessee State
6. Alabama A&M
7. Bethune-Cookman
8. Prairie View A&M
9. Miles College
10. Florida A&M
11. Arkansas-Pine Bluff
12. Kentucky State
13. Langston
14. Stillman
15. Alcorn State

You know it’s not all about stand battles, right?

With that said, what is the criteria for these rankings? Everybody who attended to Florida Classic would say FAMU outperformed BCU’s band the entire game with the cherry on top at halftime...then the 100 goes and impresses at the Rose Bowl. Yet bands like Cookman land higher?

If this based on stand performances(because the SWAC palaces a premium on that where as other bands don’t), or is it halftime? Or is this all based on video clips with various degrees of quality and editing?
