Two teams are new to the poll, with No. 16 Northern Iowa and No. 22 Southern making their way into the rankings this week. The 16th-ranked Panthers, who downed former No. 11 Northwestern State by a 43-10 count, are ranked for the first time since Oct. 21 of last season, when they occupied the No. 17 slot. The 22nd-ranked Jaguars, who defeated Alabama State, 35-10, last appeared in the poll on Sept. 4, 2000, also in the No. 22 position.
