Nonchalant

Hail, Hail To Thee...
One of my friends from A&T and I were debating both conference's fortes. He claims that the meac has a larger winning percentage in football than the SWAC and they they lead the overall series between to the conferences. Can anyone give some FACTS. Also, what is graduation ratio of our athletes in Black College sports?

...Carry On..

Without looking, I can tell you the SWAC easily leads the head to head overall series against the MEAC. Until the last 5-7 years or so, the SWAC killed the MEAC. A&T is the only team that leads JSU (3-0 :()

I know for a fact the Howard scores are wrong. I remember when I was younger(80's) we use to beat Howard like 60-0. They were like PVU.

PNeck, How many of those loses AAMU has to the MEAC occured before they were in the SWAC? Has to be most of them.

I was gonna do that next. Several teams in both leagues were not members for all 54 years.

I agree with that line of thinking.

If you're comparing the SWAC's record vs the MEAC, it should only include games when both teams were part of the respective conferences.

btw PNECK,
ASU has whooped FAM more than 5 times.
:D

Btw, I did some research for an Atty. that graduated from McNeese yesterday, the last name was Campbell can't remember his first name though. He vaguely remember you. :emlaugh:

After consulting the bible (SU media guide), here are the differences between my figures:

FAMU
P listed 21-31-1
SU has 24-33-1, same as me since 1950, plus
1949 W, 31-13
1948 W, 37-12
1947 L, 9-13
1946 W, 38-19
1941 L, 7-10

SCSU
P listed 5-1
SU has 5-1

NCAT
P listed 4-1
SU has 4-1 before last year, same as me since 1950, plus
1942 L, 12-14
Therefore, SU should actually have 4-2 listed with losses in 1942 and 1994

BCC
P listed 4-0
SU has 4-0

HAM
P listed 2-1
SU has 2-1

HOW
P listed 4-3-1
SU has 3-3-1
For some reason, the 1976 game results are not included in the media guide

DSU
P listed 0-2
SU has 0-2

MSU
P listed 1-0
SU has 1-0

Next questions..........

By the way.....

Sometimes we overexaggerate our childhood memories. SU played Howard once in the 80s, a 3-3 tie in 1980.

SU never scored 60 points in a game in the 80s.

SU scored 50 points only once:

1981 Grambling W, 50-20

40-49 points
1980 Nicholls State W, 48-0
1982 Prairie View W, 42-6
1983 Morgan State W, 45-27
1984 Mississippi Valley L, 45-63
1984 North Carolina A&T W, 41-0
1986 Texas Southern W, 43-29
1988 Mississippi Valley W, 45-7
1989 District of Columbia W, 42-14

Perhaps you were remembering someone else.

SU wins by 50+ points, all-time:
1924 Alcorn State W, 63-0
1925 Alcorn State W, 50-0
1929 Jackson College W, 97-0
1929 Alexandria W, 92-0
1931 Campbell College W, 91-0
1931 Leeland W, 82-0
1931 Straight W, 51-0
1936 Jarvis W, 87-0
1942 Philander Smith W, 57-0
1946 Samuel Huston W, 65-0
1946 Tuskegee W, 64-7
1947 Texas State W, 51-0
1947 Bishop W, 58-0
1949 Xavier W, 87-0
1950 Samuel Huston W, 59-0
1951 Samuel Huston W, 67-0
1952 Bishop W, 105-0
1953 Arkansas AM&N W, 60-0
1953 Texas College W, 58-0
1953 Bishop W, 79-0
1953 Wiley W, 70-13
1954 Bishop W, 77-0
1955 Xavier W, 51-0
1957 Arkansas State W, 59-0
1958 Alcorn State W, 56-0
1958 Xavier W, 50-0
1959 Arkansas AM&N W, 58-6
1961 Texas College W, 59-0
1965 Wiley W, 77-0
1995 Prairie View W, 68-6
1996 Prairie View W, 63-0
1997 Prairie View W, 63-7
2000 Prairie View W, 56-6
2003 Prairie View W, 62-7
2003 Allen W, 65-0

If you are going to delete all those losses by AA&MU, you might as well delete all the games before 1971 because there was no MEAC football before then.

According to the meac, FAMU came back in 86.

89 ASU 23 Famu 8
90 ASU 44 Famu 32
03 ASU 38 Famu 22

PNeck019,

Consider!!

AA&MU, AbSU, & FA&MU where are conference foes in the SIAC before the joined the SWAC.

The MEAC was formed in 1971, the SWAC in 1920 -
(Many may suggest that you should not count MEAC vs. SWAC match-ups between conference members until after this date along with some of the little tid bits of information on dates listed below)

Arkansas at Pine Bluff join the SWAC in 1936 (left in 1970-97)

Maryland at Eastern Shore joined the MEAC in 1971 (left in 1979-1981)

Morgan State join the MEAC in 1971 (left in 1979-1984)

North Carolina Central join the MEAC in 1971 (left in 1979-2004)

Florida A & M joined the MEAC in 1979 (left in 1984-85 and 03-04)

Alabama State joined the SWAC in 1982

Hampton joined the MEAC in 1995

Norfolk State joined the MEAC in 1997

Alabama A & M joined the SWAC in 1999

Thanks for the facts! Does anyone know the total overall win percentages of both conferences?

Perhaps, but I don't think you should include 2003. They were not competing for the MEAC title.....

I guess the true answers lie somewhere between what I initially posted and the second one.

If I had time, I'd post all the scores. Maybe later this weekend.....

Jafus,
The second set of records was done the way you suggest. While it covered a shorter time frame, it was a little more work because I had to determine when so-and-so was in or out of their respective conference.

As I said, I'll post all the scores later......
