SEATTLE - The Seattle SuperSonics today signed second-round draft pick David Young to a contract, Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Young, 23, was the Sonics? second-round selection (41st overall) in this year?s NBA Draft. The 6-5 guard spent his senior season at North Carolina Central, where he averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game and was named to the All-CIAA team.

Previously, Young played two-plus seasons at Xavier University. As a sophomore, Young started all 30 games he played and averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Xavier advanced to the NCAA Tournament during both of Young's full seasons.

Young played with the Sonics entry in the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league, averaging 5.0 points per game. He led the team in three-pointers.

"It's a great organization," Young said while practicing in Seattle in preparation for summer-league play. "You've got guys like Rick Sund and Dave Pendergraft and the coaching staff, they're just good guys. They work with you, they try to show you things. It seems like, overall, this is a great organization to be a part of."

Young will wear number 3.
