Sanford and Son "Redeaux"

I saw it last week. I thought the casting was perfect. If I were an executive with influence and pull, I would get all of the characters together and redo one of my favorite episodes:

  • Lamont gets Married to Betty Jean...
  • Fred Crashes Rollo and Lamont's dates with his bottle of Ripple...
  • Lamon't goes to court for his traffic ticket...
  • Grady finds wild parsley in Fred's garden...(Mike Epps is perfect for Rollo's roll in this one)
  • (honorable mention) "I want my daddy's records!" (Ced would kill it as Bubba)
Yeah, I'd like to see what kinda energy they could bring to those classic and legendary roles from the orginal actors....

Nice cast, but the concept is blasphemous. You can never duplicate Fred G. Sanford and that residence at 9114 South Central.

Sanford & Son is the top pantheon of Black shows from my childhood. There is nothing like laughing from the nostalgia as it never gets old. The Jeffersons and Good Times (only the episodes with James) should never be recast.

I completely understand. Initially I would indeed have the same sentiments as some of the remakes that we've seen over the years are indeed blasphemous and makes me want to throw up....

Yet it is just something about this one for me though. It actually might work. No, I'm not saying with would be better but as talented as we know those actors and actresses are, they might be able to pull off something unique and different to it. I mean, that is, if they do it right, with just an episode or two, it could really work I think...but hey and again, #justanothermansopinion...

You are right, I watch the original episodes of Sanford and Son on Pluto tv like I never seen it before. I just watched the episode where Fred thought Lamont was gay. Plus, he did a lot of stuff that would get you cancelled these days, nothing can beat the original.

Ah, I think Ced (Bubba) and Mike (Rahlo) are the best actors that could definitely pull it off comedically. With Don Cheadle's acting range, I can definitely see him playing the no fun Lamont. Don't know about Jamie. In fact, off all the actors to play those characters, he might be the weak link. That is not speaking any less of Jamie Foxx. He is amazing. It may just be a testament to how great Redd Foxx is. I'd still love to see what they all can do with it though at least. Again I don't care a lot about remakes. I'd give this a chance a least... LOL

You cannot duplicate a virtuoso in Redd Fox, where he immortalized Fred G.Sanford across generations. You can have Denzel or Poitier acting, only Redd makes that show.

I just watched the episode when Fred had a toothache, where he did even want to open his mouth for the Black dentist in lieu of a white man. 😂 Thinking the brother was not qualified and it flipped on him with the white man not being as qualified as the brother. LMAO. That is present day 2023.

Some stuff you just can’t reproduce!!!! Man the LGBTQ folks would be pissed off!!!! Feminist would be rioting…..honky would be brought back to life.

Wait…all this may not be half bad. Bring it back!!!!
You are right, I was watching an episode and Big Money Grif told Aunt Ester that he had a baby with her sister Elizabeth and she said "What did you say ni66a!!!" Maaan you can't say that on tv LOL

Man, since we reminiscing still...I just had to pull all these. The first one is more funny to me now not just because every thing that has happened since the Covid-19/Pandemic, but in real life, my grandma (rip) did some things very similar to my uncle/her stepson when he had to stay for a short time in her house. Yeah, she literally burned all of the sheets he slept on, recleaned anything he touched, threw away utensils he ate with, and kept her distance. They were born around the same time (My grandma and Redd Foxx) so the similarities of that energy/reaction was something hilarious yet she was sincere and trying to do what she thought could keep her safe...

I realize I might have messed up this thread bringing back those hilarious episodes but man, Redd Foxx was so much on his game as far as comedic acting goes. Yes Jamie Foxx is good and a rare talent but I finally conclude that he playing Redd Foxx is like Lebron playing the role of Michael Jordan, all due respect. Jamie would really have to bring it bring it and he is capable but Redd Foxx man... Nevertheless, I think the others could still pull it off playing those other characters. Anyhow...another good one. -->
