Phi Beta Sigma well-represented in Super Bowl

Phi Beta Sigma well-represented after winning
pro, college national football championships

Six members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., won Super Bowl
championship rings on Sunday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Seattle
Seahawks, 21-10, in Super Bowl XL in Detroit.
Hines Ward, Joey Porter, Deshea Townsend, Verron Haynes, Willie Williams
and Charlie Batch
all helped the Pittsburgh franchise celebrate its fifth
Super Bowl title. The Steelers joined the Dallas Cowboys and the San
Francisco 49ers as the only teams to win five Super Bowls. Ward, a go-to
wide receiver, was named the Super Bowl MVP
after catching five passes for
123 yards and a touchdown. Ward pledged Zeta Nu Chapter (Georgia).
Townsend, a defensive back, finished with six tackles and a sack. Porter,
a linebacker the team's emotional leader on defense, added three tackles.
Townsend and Porter were initiated into Sigma through Theta Delta Chapter
(Alabama) and Nu Xi Chapter (Colorado State), respectively.
Williams entered Sigma through Pi Mu Chapter at Western Carolina. Haynes
was initiated through Zeta Nu Chapter (Georgia), and Batch, a life member
of Sigma, entered through Zeta Epsilon Chapter (Eastern Michigan).
The Super Bowl win added to Phi Beta Sigma's football success this year.
Running back Antwaun Hobbs of Mu Rho Chapter (Texas) was on the Texas
Longhorns team that defeated the USC Trojans, 41-38, to win the Rose Bowl
and the NCAA national championship on Jan. 4. The Longhorns claimed their
first national title since 1970 and fourth in program history.

I didnt know Porter was a Sigma.

He represents big time. He pledged at Colorodo State with another Sigma brother named Adrian Ross (MADDbacker), who was with the Cincinnati Bengals for several years (blew out his ACL and didn't make it back to the NFL). They threw a big party at our Conclave in Los Angeles this past summer (the party was coordinated with a brother from Gamma Epsilon - AAMU who lives out there [Kenya Chaney aka KeKe]).

Iota was on the set as well!

Kudos to the Brothers of Sigma!

They were joined by Pittsburgh Steeler and Iota Phi Theta Brother Chidi Iwuoma. Brother Iwuoma pledged Iota Phi Theta at Gamma Zeta chapter (Cal-Berkeley) in Spring, 1997.

Bro. Iwuoma was privileged to be at midfield during the pregame coin toss as he is Captain of the Pittsburgh Steelers Special Teams unit.
