Unless an 11th hour deal is struck, JSU will play 11 regular season games this upcoming season.

JSU athletic director Roy Culberson originally had 12 games scheduled. However, Northwestern State (La.) chose not to play JSU this season, opting instead to play Georgia, which offered approximately $300,000.

JSU and Northwestern State were scheduled to play Sept. 21. That leaves the Tigers with two open dates; Oct. 5 is the other.

"Unfortunately, due to the loss of the Northwestern State game, that leaves us with 11 games," Culberson said.

A few schools have expressed interest in playing JSU, but each wants to play the first of a home-and-home at their place.

"We've only got three home games. I'm desperately trying to find another home game," Culberson said.

Here's a look at JSU's 2002 schedule: 8/31 at Southern Miss; 9/7 at North Carolina A&T; 9/14 Tennessee State (at Memphis); 9/28 Mississippi Valley State (homecoming); 10/12 Alabama State (at Mobile); 10/19 Southern U. (at New Orleans); 11/2 Arkansas-Pine Bluff; 11/9 Alabama A&M; 11/16 Prairie View; 11/23 Alcorn State.

JSU is slated to play Northwestern State in 2003 in the first game of a six-year contract. Culberson is also trying to finalize a deal to play Florida A&M in the Circle City Classic in '03.

JSU should cancel it's six-year contract with Northwestern State.
Northwestern State wasn't going to bring any fans to Jackson.
I'm glad this game was cancelled, it wasn't going to be a money
maker for JSU.
