The Mighty Marching Hornets Band (MMHB) has purchased a brand new uniforms for the first time in over a decade and debuted it at the Sept. 30 football game played against Alcorn State, which took place in its home stadium in Montgomery, Ala. The band director, Dr. James Oliver, said his student-musicians were long-due having a new and good looking uniform to perform.

"We certainly got our money's worth out of the old uniforms when you consider that we purchased them way back in 2012," Oliver said, from his office on campus. "When you look at them up close, you see that they are pot-marked with tears, rips, stains and all imaginable types of distressed places that makes them unworthy for a marching band of our caliber to be seen."

Oliver said that the new uniforms are black and gold in color and are made of 100 percent top -grade wool, as are the one's other higher educational schools and the military perform in due to its strength and longevity. They are also known for their warmth and that is why they were not worn at the first Labor Day Classic game.

"We knew that just coming out of August that these new wool dress uniforms would be too hot for our students to wear and perform in on the field; so we came up with a contingency plan -- we had a short-sleeve shirt made of cotton that closely resembled -- mimicked -- our new dress uniforms and it worked out well.

Wool? Who wears wool in the south these days?

Wisht they would've returned the hanging shoulder crests. JSU got rid of theirs too. I don't believe FAMU ever returned theirs. The Icean needs to return theirs.
