(Reuters) - The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's incoming freshman class this year dropped to just 16% Black, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander students compared to 31% in previous years after the U.S. Supreme Court banned colleges from using race as a factor in admissions in 2023, the elite engineering school said.

The proportion of Asian American students in the incoming class rose from 41% to 47%, while white students made up about the same share of the class as in recent years.

This year's freshman class at MIT is 5% Black, 1% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 11% Hispanic and 0% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. It is 47% Asian American and 37% white. (Some students identified as more than one racial group).

By comparison, the past four years of incoming freshmen were a combined 13% Black, 2% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 15% Hispanic and 1% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. The previous four classes were 41% Asian American and 38% white.

The Asians are busting ass in the classroom.

The Asians are busting ass in the classroom.

And others are not? That is insulting the blacks who are doing the same thing but do not have a political party singling them out as DEI.

It's charity when it's us? That is not a good thing in the long run. Not even good for HBCUs.

Because sooner or later you are going to have unmotivated kids at the high school level that won't bother with those fields.

Then we will be crying why is tech mainly white and Asian folks. When we don't have kids interested.

It was a statement that the Asians have been taking over in some of the top schools. Not meaning that black students aren't.

Seeing that we are still at the same numbers-that should say something.

We were getting in on more than Affirmative Action. Folks are going to stop thinking we are lazy.

No surprise here! Black folks have always achieved in the face of tremendous odds and daunting obstacles.

Perpetually going after affirmative action was just one of many ways white supremacist weaponized racism and armed white grievance. They are the least bit surprised by the outcome. They knew the harm done would be insignificant.

The demise of affirmative action means they will redirect their hatred and stereotyping at other new or pre-existing state and federal programs, like they are doing with DEI.

Stereotyping is not done by modern day white supremacists because they believe the crap they are spewing. It is done because they have a core belief that they are entitled to white privilege. Maligning and marginalizing all "others" in their mind maintains that.
