Mississippi Football: Highschool Playoff Run Starts

I just don't get it, where in the hell does Hazlehurst get these damn football players and teams. Their school district was damn near closed down by the state a few years ago. Although I hate them mofos, I have the utmost respect for their football program. They take football serious in Hazlehust. In Crystal Springs.....oh well.

The school is still going through the whole hiring/firing of the Administration/Principal/Whatever, getting things back on track but they still got a good football program down there. Those coaches are serious and have to be cause Region 7-3A is no joke. Tylertown winning State, Hazelhurst won State, and now Forrest is trying to win a 4th State title. Then they got to play South Pike, Jefferson County, and Wilkerson County.

Kids in Crystal Springs migrated to basketball and Hazelhurst stayed a football school. How that shat happen?

State Playoffs WEEK #3
Getting to the results of last week first.

Big game last week was Madison Central -vs- Northwest Rankin.
MC 27 ----- NW Rankin 20

Game photos --- MC/NWR

This time, Madison Central stops Northwest Rankin in another thriller

FLOWOOD — Northwest Rankin put a stop to Madison Central's perfect record with a game-winning fourth-quarter march three weeks ago.

The Jaguars weren't about to let their season end under similar circumstances Friday in the Class 6A quarterfinals.
MC's defense bent but didn't break in the decisive fourth quarter, holding on for a 27-20 win over NWR before a record crowd estimated at 6,000-plus at Cougar Stadium
.

Playoff results from around the state.

Out of all the teams in the state, Olive Branch must hate South Panola the most. No telling how many State Championship Olive Branch would have if not for the University.

South Panola 24, Olive Branch 13
Qyen Griffin rushed for 243 yards on 30 carries and scored on a 4-yard run with 26 seconds left as the Super 10 No. 1-ranked Tigers (13-0) held off the Conquistadors (8-5) in the Class 6A playoffs for their 25th straight victory. South Panola didn't attempt the final extra point as Griffin spiked the ball, touching off fighting among players and causing officials to call the game at that point. Kendrick Market (2 yards) and Tony Conner (25 yards) had TD runs for the defending state champion Tigers. Todd Mays scored on a 12-yard run and threw a 12-yard TD pass to Josh Gaston for OB.

Hazelhurst ran out of gas against 3A's #1 team.
They got drilled.

Mitchell's pick-6s help 3A - #1 Forest throttle Hazlehurst

FOREST — Defenses love to pick on Treshawn Mitchell.

He's short. He's skinny.
Thus, they throw toward the Forest High cornerback.
Keep the passes coming, Mitchell says.
Mitchell returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and Forest's defense forced five more turnovers in a 30-0 beating of Hazlehurst on Friday night, pushing the Bearcats into the MHSAA Class 3A South State semifinals.
Forest (13-0), ranked No. 1 in Class 3A by The Clarion-Ledger, will travel to No. 5 Tylertown (11-2) on Friday for a rematch of last year's third-round game, a battle the Chiefs won.

Big games this week are.

6A Showdown.
Defending 6A State Champion#1 South Panola 13-0 at Madison Central 12-1

Defending State Champion and #1 South Panola traveling to play Madison central for the 2rd time in 3 years. Sorry but this ain't the year for Madison central either.

Once again I ask the question about the State Playoff system here on who travel where? How can you be ranked #1 all year, undefeated in the district, region and overall, and still have to travel in the playoffs? This is the 2nd time in 3 years that South Panola has to come to Madison ranked #1 in the State and #2 in the Nation. :noidea:

3A slugfest.
Defending 3A State Champion #5 TylerTown 11-2 at #1 Forrest 13-0

Last game.
#1 Forrest shutout Hazelhurst 30-0.
#5 Tylertown beat Jefferson County 33-12

Stagg if you only knew. The Boosther club is hot as fish grease every year. They put a lot of money into the program and can't get over the hump.

Every year for at least the past 10 years or more, Olive Branch go down in the playoffs to South Panola. They can beat anybody else on any given day except for South Panola. Killing part is at 8-5, this is one of Olive Branches worst years. They gonna be loaded next year also cause their team is young like SP's was last year.

I just knew they would lose so I didn't go. I check twitter that night and the score was 18-13 with Olive Branch driving. I'm like this may be an upset. then the int happened...

OB hurt themselves 4 years ago when they built two new highschools. Now the players are split between 4 high schools and three private shcools.

Olive Branch HS
Center Hill HS Olive Branch County
Lewisburgh HS Olive Branch County
Desoto Central HS Southaven but gets Olive branch kids west of 78
SBEC private Southaven
Memphis Universty School
Christian Brother

All get OB kids

OB will get the better players to moved to OB to play as well as good Memphis players to move too. See new cheaper homes and new apartments built in the last two years..
