Mayor-Elect of Buffalo

New York City voters await results from mayoral primary election
Polling places closed across the city on Tuesday as Democratic and Republican voters for the first time used ranked-choice voting, a balloting process that allows voters to rank up to five candidates in order of preference. More than a dozen Democratic candidates and two Republican candidates are vying to determine who will replace outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio in November’s general election. Vote counting is continuing for the Democratic race while Curtis Sliwa is projected to win the Republican nomination, according to the Associated Press and The New York Times. Results from Tuesday’s primary contests may take weeks to finalize due to the new voting system, according to local officials and news reports.
