Mary Alice, who brought emotional depth and dignity to her performances on the stage and screen, winning a Tony Award for August Wilson’s play “Fences” and reaching an even wider audience through the “Cosby Show” spinoff “A Different World,” died July 27 at her home in Manhattan.
