As Editor, I am responsible for making sure that when a staff reporter discover stories, it is up to me to determine if that story is published. It is very difficult to put into print issues that occur at JSU, because for some reason JSU Folks seem to think everybody hate them. However, if they believe they are the best and facts show otherwise, it is up to the Editor of the Maroon and White Paper to print the truth. There are two ways to view the major issue facing JSU for the 2009 football season. I will attempt to list the issues JSU will face for the upcoming season. 1. 3 million dollar defict; 2. Only 36 players were allowed to attend spring practice; 3. Academic Progress Report. Here are a few things that are being done to solve some of the issues at JSU.
1. AAMU was consulted on how they raised $20,000 at their annual cake sale. MD was labeled as the worst SWAC Booster because he refused to share cake marketing with JSU. Therefore, they decided to hold a fundraiser like the volunteer firefighters by taking up donations at the intersection of Lynch Street and Popeyes chicken.
2. By having only 36 football players in spring practice, they got a rebate on 27 scholarships worth about 4500 dollars each.
3. APR, it was determined that the new computers bought with the grant money did not cover instructors to teach student athletes on how to turn on the computers. It has been reported that GSU will send some computer students to JSU to show them where the power buttons are located.
No matter what the future hold for JSU, we all must pray that the game between JSU and MSU will allow them to compete for a SWAC Championship.
