Jackson State University School of Education
The University?s Professional Education Program is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is approved by the Mississippi Department of Education. All graduates of the program are eligible for licensure in the State as the University maintains a 100 percent passage rate by candidates on the State?s mandated examinations for beginning teachers.
Professional Education Program Priorities
Enhance preparation of quality teachers who are responsive to the current demands of schooling: classroom managers, reading/thinking skill facilitators, assessment-based teachers, sound theory-based and real world practitioners.
Maintain national accreditation by conducting self-studies, revising programs as needed and securing personnel and other appropriate resources.
Secure funding for the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty and students.
Increase involvement of IHL and LEA personnel in research and design and implementation of curriculums and mentoring programs.
Enhance professional development opportunities for LEA and IHL partners.
Enhance continuing training opportunities for induction in professional education.
Enhance collaboration with all University units to ensure recognition that professional education is university wide.
Increase business and community partnerships to facilitate a better understanding of the profession among legislators, business persons and other decision-making bodies.
Expand program opportunities for the needs of non-traditional populations.
Enhance follow-up of graduates to more actively involve them in the training and revision process.
