'An Icy Night in Ithaca'
Twas the night before the founding while the icy streets of Ithaca were
astounding,
As the black sky began surrounding, old gold clouds that were
amounting........
....to the birth of a treasure that no ruler could measure,
....tied to goodness like a tether, while God blessed it with pleasure,
Nineteen Hundred and Six A.D.,
One of the coldest years in history indeed,
With remnants of ice ages as the blizzard rages,
Roaring through New York State like lions in cages,
.....This evening's forecast...............................ICE
The chief meteorologist , aka 'ice inspector',
Has phoned the home of doubt's collector,
To gauge the current through electrical surge protectors,
Like AC to DC and CC to Poindexter.........
who was.................
Finding it hard to believe that the epitome of the Ivy League
could peak our intrigue producing enforcers of Manly Deeds...........
Scholarship and Love for All Mankind while planting the seeds.......
to organize the herbicide to choke out racism's weeds.........
At any rate.............
It is now 7 below and The Creator's about to bestow,
Upon us a sight tonight with a devastating glow,
Seven sparkles in the sky on constellation row,
The air is dry and the illumination grows..................
As the telescope is peering and the winds are cheering,
Icy embryos find bearings during a time so endearing,
(alphabetical order only)
The first sparkle is named H.A. Callis - a practicing physician on a mission
to end world malice..........
The second sparkle is called C.H. Chapman - a guru at FAMU making true
education happen.......
The third sparkle is deemed E.K. Jones - who made his legacy in the Urban
League well known........
The fourth sparkle is labeled G.B. Kelley - Civil Engineer extraordinaire
who
made roads ready....
The fifth sparkle is N. A. Murray - who converted the ignorant to the
educated
in a hurry..............
The sixth sparkle is tagged R.H. Ogle - who's black and gold idea became
nuclear like Chernobyl........
The seventh sparkle is V.W. Tandy - an architect handy who designed a pin so
dandy.........
The sparkles have been identified, their authenticity, verified,
Intensity immensely notarized, 'First of All' is how they're categorized,
For our Creator is The Alpha and Omega...........
But alas............
He's The Alpha FIRST, and with that notion there's a burst,
Of energy that can quench mother earth's wisdom thirst,
Yielding Jewels shining brightly when formerly stones in the dirt,
Converting refrains and hooks to a simple sonnets and verse,
Across the sky you heard a big cry,
As midnight was nigh and the moon was high,
A sonic boom resonated on the sly,
Followed by a thunderous voice aggressive and not shy,
Stating.........'A-Phi......'til the day I die!'....................
