How to make the SWAC Tournament better

or see if Campbell center or merrell center or even the berry center would be great hosting spots.

The Campbell Center is too far north, The Berry Center is too far west and with the construction on 290 it would be a problem to get to on saturday and The Merrell Center is being used by the Southland Conference. That's why people were suggesting the brand new Delmar Fieldhouse. Close in the city, not far from the Galleria area with hotels, restaurants and shopping venues.

I can agree with this.

If its not financially viable then just get rid of the tournament altogether and send the regular season champions to the NCAA's

I'm still at a lost as to why it has to be held somewhere other than our schools campus where the conference wouldn't have to pay rent.

Guess I'm just stupid for being logical .

Honestly, I'm sure the conference would still be charged some form of rent even if the schools hosted to offset the costs of operations, security, etc. It wouldn't be nearly as much as a Toyota center but an expense nonetheless

Can't bring that train of thought to PV brah. The PV athl dept will charge a rental fee towards the conference office lol. :D

B Ham is the home of the conference, why not use Legion Field (Football), Regions Field (Baseball) and The BJCC (Basketball). Package all three up for a multi year deal and get a discount on them, shoot, maybe throw in a deal for hotels and accomidations for fans since you will be generating money for the local economy.
The BJCC: https://www.bjcc.org/, also
Regions: http://www.milb.com/content/page.jsp?sid=t247&ymd=20120127&content_id=26491494&vkey=team4
Legion Field: http://www.birminghamal.gov/parks-and-recreation/legion-field/

Noooooooooooo!

The SCG is good at NRG.

The BJCC is too large for the basketball tournament.

The city of Houston is trying to get the SWAC office moved to downtown Houston. I doubt they stay in Bham much longer.

Of course the conference is going to pay for turning on the lights but they don't charge the conference rent. You can label it whatever you like.

At the end of the day there isn't an arena any where in the swac that's going to cost remotely close to what it cost for a professional basketball arena before turning on the lights .

This simply isn't rocket science but seems more of what you all have always complain about. People not wanting to give up their perks .

The BJCC is a thousand less seats...Plus the rent alone would probably be less. Besides wanting it to be in Houston, what is the reasoning not to move it? Just wondering.

Any venue that major concerts, NCAA tournament regional sites, WWE televised shows, etc., go to should immediately be disqualified for hosting the SWAC basketball tournament.

Those venues are too large for the SWAC tournament.

@ohslax61 the logic behind having/keeping in Houston is potential for growth after years of bouncing the tournament from Baton Rouge to Biloxi to Birmingham to Garland (Dallas) to Shreveport/Bossier.

Houston still holds a large concentration of SWAC alums, plus the potential for corporate partnerships is greater here.

The biggest argument is Toyota Center is too friggin large for the tournament. A lot of see the potential for the SWAC to stick around in the Houston market, but would prefer the tournament moved to a smaller venue like the new Delmar Fieldhouse near the I-610/US 290 interchange.

2,000 people in a 5,000-seat venue looks a lot better than 2,000 in an NBA arena

Well he's failed miserably at that. So "IMO" we need to go back to the top seeded school hosting it or firing him and getting somebody who can actually get it done.
