Today, Alabama State University celebrates its founding as the nation’s oldest historically black state-sponsored university with a week-long series of events that honor its historic past and commitment to educating some of the country’s most promising black students.

"It’s a time for the university and its family to reflect on how blessed we are 153 years later to be at an institution founded by individuals who were thinking about children who were yet unborn, who were making a way for young people to achieve," said ASU President Quinton Ross.

Before the Memorial Bell, a surviving artifact from the school’s original rural campus, is rung on Friday marking the close of this year’s Founder’s celebration, test your knowledge of Hornet history.
