Former UAPB, J-State, and Icon Grambling greats list HOF nominees

If justice is served, Rayfield Wright of Fort Valley and the Cowboys will be in the hall. He should have been in years ago. The same should be said for Tank Younger.

EB,

Let me tell you. The NFL writers are using the excuse that if the Dallas Cowboys wont put Rayfield Wright in the "Ring of Honor" at Texas Stadium, then how could they possibly put him in the HOF? This has been the main reason why at lot of other Cowboys are not in the HOF.

Arkansas AM&N or UAPB: LC Greenwood

He should have been in their years ago too. He was one of the main clogs in that steel curtain defense..

By the way Oct. 18 game against Grambling is LC Greenwood Day

It is a sorry excuse. But then there is a one man committee that can get Wright, a relative of mine, and others onto the ring. His name is Jerry Jones. If Jerry really wanted to get them on the ring, he could easily do it. Note that Jerry has been the owner since 1989.

BTW Rayfield Wright spoke at the memorial service for Tom Landry. That alone said a lot of things to me. Note that Landy's name is on the Ring of Honor.

Let's not forget Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Jethro Pugh, and others. Correct me if I am wrong. But it looked like Jerry had to be talked into getting Bob Hayes name on the ring. I wonder.

Grambling or the Rams needs to start a petition for Tank Younger -- seem like all of his teammates with Rams are in Canton. Everson Walls has the stats too (mimics Mel Blount's).

From The Newsstar today (10/23/03) -- someone heard my plea!

Tanks for nothing: Grambling State fans could be both elated and mystified at the 77 names released on the Pro Football Hall of Fame's list of 2004 preliminary nominees.

First, the mystification: Once again, Paul "Tank" Younger has been passed over.

The former GSU star, already inducted into the both the college and SWAC halls of fame, was the first athlete from a predominantly black college to play in the National Football League.

"I don't know how it works. It's hard to imagine that Tank is not on it," Williams says. "I think you ought to have a campaign. Somebody - the athletics director, the sports information director, the alumni - they need to petition to get his name out there."

Younger scored 60 touchdowns - at the time a collegiate record - during his storied career under Eddie Robinson at Grambling State. Named black college player of the year in 1949, he still holds the school record for most points in a career.

Three seasons later, playing both ways at running back and linebacker, Younger helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to a title. Upon retirement after the 1958 season, he moved to front-office positions with the Rams and San Diego Chargers.

Younger - who died just days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks - is eligible as one of the senior committee's two annual nominees. Bob Brown and Bob Hayes are on this year's ballot.
