Defensive back/wide receiver Michael Caraway was among more than 400 hopefuls who participated in tryouts for the New Orleans VooDoo on Nov. 7, looking to play professional football in the Arena Football League.
He was one of three signed, along with quarterback Jermaine Alfred, and offensive specialist Sean Dillard.
The VooDoo also agreed to terms with free agent defensive back/wide receiver Calvin Spears, the former GSU standout.

Caraway (6-2, 190) appeared in 10 games for the af2's Macon Knights in 2003 as a defensive specialist, recording 55 tackles (46 solo), four interception returns for nine yards, 12 pass breakups, one fumble recovery and a forced fumble. He played at Jackson State and is a native of Prentiss, Miss.

Spears (6-0, 195, Grambling) spent 2003 training camp with the New York Giants and was one of the team's final cuts. This past spring, he started at safety for NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy, recording 34 tackles, three interceptions, nine passes defensed and a forced fumble. He was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Cleveland in 2002, spending training camp with the Brown. Spears was a four-time All-SWAC selection and started every game of his collegiate career at Grambling with 188 tackles, 16 interceptions, 44 passes defense, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Spears prepped at Istrouma (La.) High School.

"Calvin is another local product who is a solid defender with experience in two NFL camps and in NFL Europe this past spring," said Neu.
