PHOENIX — Arizona Republicans voted Saturday to censure Cindy McCain and two prominent GOP members who have found themselves crosswise with former President Donald Trump.

The censures of Sen. John McCain’s widow, former Sen. Jeff Flake and Gov. Doug Ducey are merely symbolic. But they show the party’s foot soldiers are focused on enforcing loyalty to Trump, even in the wake of an election that saw Arizona inch away from its staunchly Republican roots.

Party activists also reelected controversial Chairwoman Kelli Ward, who has been one of Trump’s most unflinching supporters and among the most prolific promoters of his baseless allegations of election fraud.

Cheney spokesperson on Gaetz: 'In Wyoming, the men don't wear make-up'

The spokesperson was responding to Gaetz's plans to be at a rally in Cheyenne, Wyo., where he will reportedly urge Cheney to step down due to her decision to vote in favor of impeaching former President Trump, The Washington Examiner reports.

Cheney, the third-ranking House GOP leader, was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump.A spokesperson for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) shot back at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for his criticisms of the congresswoman on Sunday, saying he should "leave his beauty bag at home. In Wyoming, the men don't wear make-up."

But they want unity

I only hear democrats talking that unity shit. The GOP is shameless when it comes to power. I dont think folks realize how precarious the Democrats' Senate majority is. Today Patrick Lehay was taken to the hospital. 80 years old....WHY are you still in the Senate? That's a pet peeve of mine since the democrats purport to be the party for youth voters. There is alot of talent if only these old congressmen would step aside. Vermont has a GOP governor so if he dies, McConnell will be back in power.

nother example of the price that repubicans have to pay for not worshiping agent orange.

Sasse's message to Nebraska GOP as he faces censure: 'Politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude'

Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska stood firm against leaders of his state's Republican Party on Thursday after they advanced a censure resolution against him for decrying efforts to overturn the election results and then-President Donald Trump's involvement in the US Capitol riot.

In a video addressing members of the Nebraska GOP State Central Committee, Sasse urged the party to accept critics of the former President and remain true to conservatism as the party's future.

"Let's be clear: The anger in this state party has never been about me violating principle or abandoning conservative policy -- I'm one of the most conservative voters in the Senate -- the anger's always been simply about me not bending the knee to one guy," Sasse said.

The Democrats need to take full advice of what's going on with the Republican Party and secure power for at least 50 years. I think a lot of Democrats see blood in the water, so if Biden stretches his hand too far across the isle the democrats will revolt.

Louisiana's state Republican Party said Tuesday that it was “profoundly disappointed” in Sen. Bill Cassidy’s vote that the impeachment trial former President Donald Trump is constitutional, joining several other state parties which have criticized or censured lawmakers for their votes against the former president.

“The Republican Party of Louisiana is profoundly disappointed by Senator Bill Cassidy’s vote,” the party said in a statement Tuesday. “We feel that an impeachment trial of a private citizen is not only an unconstitutional act, but also an attack on the very foundation of American democracy, which will have far reaching and unforeseen consequences for our republic.”

The party said that Trump was “innocent of the politically motivated, bogus charges” brought by a “kangaroo court” and praised Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) for voting that the trial was unconstitutional.

Cassidy (R-La.) was one of six Senate Republicans who voted with Democrats Tuesday to affirm the Senate’s authority to hold Trump’s impeachment trial for inciting an insurrection. Cassidy was lone GOP lawmaker to switch positions after previously voting that the Senate impeachment trial was not constitutional.

Column: McConnell's choice is emblematic of the GOP's rot

If Mitch McConnell were just another Republican senator, I’d say he was the eighth bravest. The seven bravest are the ones who voted to convict Donald Trump.

For weeks, I’ve been saying that if you claim to honestly believe that the Constitution forbids the Senate from convicting a former president (who, recall, was impeached while in office) you’re free to do so.

I think that is a profoundly wrong and dangerous view, creating the “January exception” the impeachment managers warned about. But if that’s your sincere view, you should be the one denouncing Trump’s actions more than anyone else. You should be full of anger, sorrow and frustration that this lamentable oversight by the founders — which again, doesn’t actually exist — prevents you from doing what the facts and morality warrant: convicting Trump for his hideous behavior leading up to, and including, the events of Jan. 6.

That is precisely what McConnell did Saturday, delivering a blistering and accurate denunciation of Trump’s moral, political and, possibly, criminal culpability. And while McConnell was wrong in his vote, he at least voiced the truth, something beyond the likes of those governed solely by political appetites — Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri, Ted Cruz of Texas, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Marco Rubio of Florida et al.

In the hours after Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy (LA) and Richard Burr (NC) joined five other Republican senators in voting to convict former President Donald Trump on an article of impeachment for his role in inciting the January 6 insurrection, the state Republican parties in Louisiana and North Carolina wasted no time laying down a marker that the GOP still belongs to Trump.

The LAGOP and NCGOP each quickly censured Cassidy and Burr for their votes. In a statement posted to Twitter, the LAGOP wrote that it “condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the vote today by Sen. Cassidy to convict former President Trump,” while NCGOP chair Michael Whatley released a statement denouncing Burr’s vote as “shocking and disappointing.”

Trump Refuses Meet with Nikki Haley after Capitol Riot Criticism

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley requested a meeting with former President Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Wednesday, but Trump refused to meet, Politico reported on Thursday.
“I think he’s lost any sort of political viability he was going to have,” Haley said on January 12. “We need to acknowledge [Trump] let us down….He went down a path he shouldn’t have, and we shouldn’t have followed him.”

However, Haley has not expressed support for Trump’s impeachment and defended parts of the former president’s record in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

Haley is reportedly making preparations for a 2024 presidential run and is likely wary of alienating Trump’s base. She pointedly refused to condemn Trump’s false election fraud claims in an interview with Politico conducted before the riot, repeatedly implying that the president didn’t bare moral responsibility for misleading voters because he really believed the election was stolen.

Senior Republicans are split over how to treat Trump: Pay homage at Mar-a-Lago or refuse to 'bend the knee'

Senior Republicans are split over how to treat former President Donald Trump, with the No. 2 House Republican making a personal pilgrimage to visit him on the same day that the top Senate Republican vowed never to "bend the knee" in that way.

Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana met privately with Trump on Wednesday at the former President's Mar-a-Lago estate, CNN has learned, on the same day that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell vowed never to do so.

The Kentucky Republican is "not going to bend the knee" and travel to Mar-a-Lago, a close McConnell associate told CNN, adding that McConnell will "probably never speak" to Trump again if he can avoid it.

"He's also never going to mention Trump again," said this person.

Politico first reported on Scalise's meeting with Trump.

Like so many other senior Republicans, Scalise and McConnell are following wildly divergent strategies for managing the former President as he threatens to upend all semblance of order in the Republican party.

Alaska GOP demands Sen. Lisa Murkowski stop identifying as a Republican

After providing a key committee vote for the confirmation of Rep. Deb Haaland, D-N.M., to become the first Native American interior secretary, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, is now being censured by her own party.

On Monday, the Senate voted 51-40 to confirm Haaland with Murkowski joining only three other Republicans, Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine and Dan Sullivan of Alaska breaking ranks to cast votes in favor of the nomination. On Mar. 4, Murkowski –– who originally signaled opposition to Haaland on account of the secretary-to-be's anti-drilling views –– voted "yes" on Haaland's confirmation in a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee vote. That vote, along with Murkowski's vote to impeach Donald Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, has upset Republicans in Murkowski's home state.
