Stewardship of Your Mind
Philippians 4:8

Too often when we hear the word “stewardship” we think of money and material possessions. But one of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis, writes:

“Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given to you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not, in a sense, His own already”[1]

Steward (noun)- one who manages the possessions of another person; a person who manages or looks after another’s property.

Stewardship (noun)- the commitment of one’s self and possession to God’s service; “utilizing and managing all resources God provides for His glory and for the betterment of His creation”.

Owners have rights. Stewards have responsibilities. Since God owns all things, He has the right to command/demand that we properly manage what belongs to Him according His desires and purposes. Our stewardship is an expression of our obedience regarding our management of everything God has placed in our control. This requires us to recognize that we DO NOT have the right of control over our possessions and/or our OWNSELVES! This include our bodies and minds.

Consider your mind. Are you a good steward over your mind? Do you care about the mental state of your mind? What happens in your mind is more likely to become a reality. It is important that we practice good stewardship with our mind, giving the right attention to the way we think. Begin each morning by thinking of somewhere in the Scripture where the importance of our thinking is emphasized. “Biblical stewardship is where the concepts of faith, work and economics intersect”[2]. Meditate on Scriptures, starting today, that will unlock your faith in God.

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always!
