Don't Rent Porn!

Just so you, the Homeland Security Bill that passed last week just about sold all of your civil liberties out of the window. The government will now have unfettered access to everything from bank records to credit card bills to EZ pass information and even your VIDEO RENTALS. Therefore, if you like to go into that "closed room", I recommend that you think again. It's cash and carry with those kinds of transactions.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the government can do all of this WITHOUT PROBABLE CAUSE. Do you feel safer now?

Stole the election, and now this isht! That Sistah Souljah video of ten years ago might come true!

Well we knew this was coming. White people have a habit of getting selfish. They're all about security right now, but sooner or later they're going to start complaining about personal liberties. You can't have it both ways. They should realize that an extreme security bill just won't cut it.

Also add rx records to that list.

What else is new???

I don't know where you guys have been, but this stuff has been going on, the only difference is, now they can do it legally. The moment your Social SECURITY Number was issued, you became a suspect, and your privacy was lost.

NICE

That may be true, but it can only get worse from it being legal. ANd before at least they pretended to have a reason to look in.

What made yall think that you had an expectation of privacy in this regard? You mean you go to a public store, and hand a movie to the clerk? How was that ever private?

PS- The homeland security bill hasnt passed yet.

Hmm let's see,

Phone records can be checked...
ATM transactions as well...
Every use of a credit card..
Even if you pay cas for groceries your spending is being checked because a lot of people use that discount card for savings..
I won't even get into the internet aspect of things...

So rent your porn, just don't go and buy a ton of fertalizer or other bomb making materials and you should be good...

If you're living your life right, why should you have anything to be worried about in the first place???

...this is true. Your life has been an open book. They know who you are.

The bill has not passed yet.

Don't Be Naive

How many well intentioned rules have eventually been abused? But more importantly, WE, as black people, should ALWAYS be concerned when our civil liberties can be sold off in the quest for safety. Where does it end? Today, the Arabs are the terrorist. Tommorrow it could BE YOU! Don't you see the slippery slope we are on. Do you really believe that the information that the government will gather on you might not be used in other areas, by other people.

Look, when J. Edgar Hoover was trampling our civil liberties 40 years ago and he kept threatening MLK with audio tape and pictures of the local **** he just banged, he had to do it with threats and intimidation. Under this new system, the government no longer has to consider the ethical aspects and just proceed into your life.

This is just too much power to give to any administration or public official.

Note: Trust me, this bill was passed the moment the Dems decided to cave on the issue of union employees. The final vote count will be something like 92-8. After all, you can't reasonably be expected to vote against a bill that's been patriotized with the title "Homeland Security", can you?

My take

I think the issue of alarm comes when the issue of personal privacy in large scale becomes compromised. Now to some people, renting porn isn't a big deal. However, to the person who's, let's say, clandestine, it may be a big issue.

That's all I can say about it.

Well,, what do yall want the freaking gov to do?!

Look,,,,,,, the government can either:

  1. Go in with overwhelming force and bust arse and totally decimate terrorists or terrorist sympathetic countries like they did the Indians,,
  2. Continue to show restraint and PC and yield to world public opinion as terrorists hit the U.S. and the gov does nothing but implement things like this to make everybody feel better,,
  3. do nothing and go along, business as usual, and let the terrorist do whatever they want and hope that the sympathy of the rest of the world saves the US.
    [/list=1]

What do you want them to do?! If they bust arse, we'd be the first ones talkin' bout how dispicable it is for the U.S. to kill innocent people; but never mind that every time the terrorist commit an act THEY kill innocent people.

The new rules are unfortunate, but given the way the country is and how much pressure the government is under not to hurt any particular group's feelings and definitely not kill innocent people in any kind of effort to meet terrorists on their terms, what else can they do except stuff like this?
