Dayum Mavericks

crazylegs,

It doesn't matter what offense thay are running. These are 4 of the greatest basketball players of all time on the court. They will find a way to win. GP is still the best point guard in the West, Shaq is Shaq, Kobe is still the best SG in the West, and Malone is one of the best PF of all time and is the Jerry Rice of the NFL as far as conditioning goes.

But what real problem does that create????

Shaq and Kobe have played in the triangle for four years and have won. So they know it. Horace Grant played for Phil in Chicago and in LA, so he knows it. And Fisher, Fox, George, Pargo, Medved, and the other guys know it.

And Malone's been playing two-ball with Stockton for 18 years, so adding a 'third' side to what he's accustomed to, shouldn't be difficult...Besides, he's got Byron Russell to play 2-ball with too. Gary Payton will be crucial, 'cause he'll play the 1.

So maybe with (5)Shaq, (2)Kobe, (1)Payton, (4)Grant and (3)Malone out there, you might not ever have a 'perfect triangle' being run.... But when you go deep in the bench, you can run the triangle through either Shaq, Malone, Grant, Medved, or Fox (all playing the '5' or '4' spot), and let Russell, Fisher, Pargo and the others roam the perimeter......

I don't see a 'downside' in this at all.....other than the 'ego' issue.... And we'll just have to wait and see how that plays out.

:smh:

Don't judge the Mavs on their first game. This team is basically in training camp with their new additions. LA has had their new team since the summer. Once the Mavs gets that engine running, watch out. Don't think that Dirk will continue to go 2-9 from 3 point range. Once he and the rest of the Mavs get their rhythm, it will be the most exciting show on da court.

As for the Lakers, don't judge their performance based on their first game against the Mavs. We'll see how they matchup against other teams that have had a complete training camp. I would say that they look good. That Payton/Malone combination is great, but the key will be the Payton/Malone/Kobe/Shaq combination.

Look at the Spurs, they got BEAT by the Nuggets last night. This goes to show you that their team hasn't jelled either, but they will.
