College Athletics getting paid

Everyone owes Ed O'Bannon a tremendous amount of gratitude for this.

Yet many on this site still call him a snitch or a sore loser because he didnt make it in the NBA.

He's gonna be viewed like MLK (related to college athletes getting paid) years down the road. Many people forget that MLK and Malcolm were despised at the time of their deaths

Truth ^^^^.

And now kids' objectives will shift to a differing type of focus which is $$$$ incentive-laden. Too many will put in work and effort where the maximum potential for $$$ earnings while in college will occur.

Naturally, when the pwcu athletic medicore and dormants of the mid-to-late 1960s made their power plays ala "assimilation of physically gifted black males," they secured a great advantage in facilities and notoriety well ahead of the rest of us not current P5 or even G5.

I applaud the athlete getting paid, however I am concerned abt the non revenue sports. What effect will the NIL financial pay out’s have in relation to the dollars donated to the University athletic programs.

Welp. Say goodbye to HBCU athletics.
I would not say that, as worse case HBCUs could drop back down to the NAIA, go non scholarship, declare players independent contractors, or basically tell players if you wants to play sports at any particular school you agree to forgo compensations from the school itself. To be honest most schools are going to say that football does not make money and thus there is no money available to pay players. It will be interesting if a player will file a lawsuit against a school or the NCAA claiming that there would be money to pay players if schools did not take revenue from football to pay for other sports or contribute to the school.

I can see schools dropping as many non-revenue sports that they can legally do and asking for people to help support some of those sports (if not they would drop them). I remember Stanford threaten to shutdown a number of sports and basically people donated enough money to make those sports self supported.
